Tagging along with the guys at TractorFanatic.com, we visited Charlie English and his rare
collection of vintage tractors including his 1937 John Deere Gold Leaf D. This tractor was built by
John Deere as a commemorative tractor for the 100th anniversary of John Deere making its first
plow. In the video Charlie discusses the history of the tractor as well as a few of the issues he had
to overcome to finish the restoration. He also mentioned visiting some tractor shows later this year,
so stay tuned. Another interesting part of his tractor collection is the scaled garden tractor sized
version of the tractor he custom built for his grandkids.
1937 John Deere Gold Leaf D Stats and History:
* Charlie's Model D had about 20,000 hours of wear on it and it took him 625 hours to restore it.
* Serial # 131570
* Built: Dec. 23, 1936
* Shipped to: Kansas City branch
* "Gold Leaf" is a reference to the paint technique and color used on the Gold D.
* The cost to match and re-paint the D was $4000.00
